lt’s not all work... Enrichment is part of your learning experienceWednesday afternoons are dedicated to enrichment activities for students. Enrichment is any activity that you take part in outside of your academic course. These include: • Freshers’ Fair in September to help you make friends and settle in to the College • Sports - cricket, football, basketball, netball, skiing and archery • Fitness - you can get a personal fitness plan and use the multi-gyms, aerobics and circuit training • Self defence and assertiveness training • Dance • Outdoor pursuits • Table tennis and pool • Shopping trips to London, Liverpool and Manchester • Live theatre shows at the College and visits to theatres • Cultural or social events - Black History Month, Clothes Show Live, the Mega Mela at the NEC and other events • Cinema trips • Bowling trips. Trips There is also a wide range of UK trips and a variety of social events which are organised throughout the year e.g. trips to Blackpool, Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Park. Enrichment Programme Our Enrichment Programme gives you the opportunity to take part in enjoyable activities while learning new skills, for example sports coaching, volunteering, first aid or salsa dancing. You can collect your copy of the Enrichment Programme at reception in any of our campuses. You can meet and chat in our Common Rooms, Cafeterias, Canteens or student restaurants throughout the day. If you fancy burning off the calories after you’ve eaten in Karibunis, our on-site student restaurant at Hall Green specialising in food from around the world, we have fully-equipped gyms, a women’s only gym, a weights room, sports hall and a G3 Astroturf pitch for you to use. If you’re feeling competitive, or just want to meet your friends, you can chill out or play table tennis, pool or arcade games in our Common Rooms. You can also take advantage of our range of cost effective treatments from facials, body massages, nail extensions, colouring and hair conditioning treatments to a blow dry at our student Hair & Beauty Salon. In addition being a student of either Birmingham City University or the University of Wolverhampton means you have access to all of the university’s facilities and student life too! Student Support The Student Services Team offers a range of services to make your life easier whilst you study at South Birmingham College.They can help you by: • Giving you advice and guidance on choosing the right course • Providing advice on careers or progression routes • Dealing with requests for additional support to help you with your studies • Offering a confidential counselling and welfare service • Offering financial support • Progressing onto Higher Education • Accommodation support Our Open Learning Centres The College has excellent Open Learning Centres with superb information and communication technology. With well-equipped IT resource centres, well stocked libraries and a Virtual Learning Environment, we successfully help our students to study whilst at college and at home. Virtual Learning Environment Moodle is South Birmingham College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the open source course management system and learning platform. It is available to all students, on and off campus, wherever and whenever you choose to carry on your learning. This Virtual Learning Environment contains learning materials specially designed for your course. You will be able to access: • Course details and modules, including schemes of work, reading lists, revision notes and teaching notes • Web-based content for your course, including interactive learning materials and online learning activities • Online assessment for your course, including tests, quizzes and assignments • Collaboration and communication tools to use with your tutors and other learners, discussion forums and wikis. Courses in Moodle are always being developed and added to by tutors to further support you on your course. Access to University Libraries, including online access Once enrolled with your University you will be able to use the University libraries and access thousands of journal articles and electronic resources online to help you with research for your studies. |
