The Disability Advisory Team (DAT) has been developed to offer a support mechanism to students and staff at South Birmingham College. Our main aim is to continue to promote and develop topics of interest to students and staff who have a disability or an interest in disability issues.
The site will provide materials and links to outside organisations who are able to provide specialist information in relation to your area of interest. It will also provide hyper links to other sites.
As well as providing educational and legislative information to students and staff, the site will provide information on other areas of interest eg holiday destinations and accomodation, transport facilities, places to go etc. The site will be ever changing and developing as it matures.
Information from viewers will be located on the site in several areas. Please be aware that the site is not here just to provide info to you the viewer but about you sharing your views, information Questions and Answers etc. We do want the site to be thought provoking and sometimes challenging to ideas and views put forward or posted on the site.
So who are the Disability Advisory Team?
The DAT (Disability Advisory Team) is made up of college staff and students, who meet at least once every term to discuss many topics of interest, from access to various centres of the college, learning support, legislative changes. The team also investigates ways to support the college improve its services to students, staff and outside visitors who may have a disability or learning disabilities.
We will try to support the college and its users by providing a forum for discussion. Information findings from the forum may be disseminated to appropriate personnel to support improvements with facilities or resources the college provides.
The DAT will where possible, support staff and students in finding research materials to support academic studies. It will also support staff and students in a wide range of issues. We may be able to support individuals who have difficulties in raising particular issues about disability or resources they require to maximise their full learning potential. We can also help you with access the correct type of computer screens, or specialist resources with access to particular areas of the college due to mobility issues etc.
