Are there any entry requirements?

Could you welcome and guide visitors around National Trust Properties? Would you like a chance to learn new skills? The National Trust is looking for volunteers who have some spare time and lots of enthusiasm to bring these properties to life. A training course is being held for all new volunteers at various National
Trust Sites.

What will I study?
This course is for all volunteer tour guides and is designed to improve and develop your presentation skills and knowledge to give guided tours. The course consists of 10 weekly sessions and will include short talks from National Trust speakers and local historians.

You will study the following areas:

Group discussions - identifying good and bad tour guide techniques
Talks - on the history of properties
Health & Safety - potential hazards and issues surrounding tours
Laws and regulations - identifying laws and legislation associated with tours
Tour Guiding Industry - an overview of the industry
Producing guided tours - creating and designing a tour

What can I do after this course?
On successful completion of this course you could become a trained volunteer, taking guided tours around the National Trust back-to-back houses and other properties.
