NEBOSH NATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE

Designed for:
Managers, supervisors, safety representatives and those with a responsibility for co-ordinating health and safety in the workplace.

Objectives:
At the end of the course students will be able to identify hazards in the workplace and suggest suitable controls; understand the function of a health and safety management system; conduct a safety inspection of the workplace and write a report to management on the findings. The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a highly recommended entry level course for the NEBOSH National Diploma qualification.

Course Structure:
The course consists of 2 units (NGC1- Management of Health and Safety, and Unit NGC2- Controlling Workplace Hazards). Each unit consists of several elements and each unit also has its own distinct written examination paper. Topics include:

" Health and safety foundations
" Workplace hazards and methods of control
" Safety management and human behaviour
" Assessing and reducing risks
" Construction Safety
" Chemical and biological hazards and control methods
" Monitoring workplace health and safety

Course Assessment:
Assessments consists of two written examination papers (NGC1 Safety Management and NGC2 Controlling Workplace Hazards), plus the preparation of a report following a workplace inspection.

Course start, length and cost.

Course A runs for 13 days, (1 day per week) including examinations and a workplace inspection and report. Start date: Wednesday, 17 September 2008, finishing on December 17th 2008. Cost is £425 per student. Maximum number of students - 16.

Course B runs for 30 evenings, one evening per week, three hours per evening, finishing in early June 2009, and includes written examinations and a workplace inspection and report. Start date: Monday, September15th 2008. Cost is £425 per student. Maximum number of students - 16.

Course C runs for 30 evenings, one evening per week, three hours per evening, finishing in June 2009, including written examinations and a workplace inspection and report. Start date: Thursday September 25th 2008. Cost is £425 per student. Maximum number of students 16.

No course meetings will take place during half-term, Christmas, Easter, or Bank holidays.
